John Deer Golf Classic Pledge Fundraiser
From Brenda the SR Board Treasurer:
Hi all,
I want to pass along some information about a fundraiser that we are asking ALL
of you to participate in. It is known as Birdies for Charity, and is put on by
the
John Deere Classic PGA Golf tournament in
Moline, Illinois. I copied the following information from the Birdies
website (www.birdiesforcharity.com)
The way Birdies for Charity works is for charitable organizations to obtain
flat dollar donations, OR pledges of 1 cent or more for every "birdie" made
during the
John Deere Classic held in July. Birdies for Charity will donate ALL
money received to participating charities. All administrative or promotional
costs of the program are paid by John Deere. All the money goes to participating
charities!
Each person who makes a pledge to Birdies for Charity has an opportunity to
guess the exact number of birdies that will be made at the
John Deere Classic. One person who guesses the exact number will win a
new Buick. Over 500 other great prizes also are awarded.
Each "Bird" solicits pledges on behalf of their favorite charity. Birdies for
Charity then collects the pledges and donates all money received to the charity
written on the pledge card. The more a Bird collects, the more his or her
charity receives. If an individual would raise 100 pledges at 1 cent each, the
individual's charity of choice would receive approximately $2,000. The
individual would have no risk or expenses and the individual's donors would have
a chance at a car or other great prizes.
As before, the goal of the tournament will be to provide a 10% bonus match to
every charity that participates in the program.
So, all you have to do is print off the attached pledge form, enter 'Sheltered
Reality' as the not-for-profit organization (at top of page) and '1313' as the
bird number. Print enough copies of the pledge form for your members to
distribute to friends and family. If a person wants to participate, have him
(or her) fill in his name, address, etc (write clearly please!) and how much he
wants to donate per birdie made during the tournament. For example, if they
want to donate 1 cent per birdie and there are
1800 birdies made during the tournament, their donation will be $18.00.
Also, have them record their guess for the number of birdies they think will be
made during this year's tournament. (A birdie is a score of one stroke under
par at each hole). Collect all the pledge forms, record the names and addresses
of the donors to send to me. You then mail the pledge forms to the Birdies
office before
July 10, 2008. At the end of the tournament, I will receive a
spreadsheet from the Birdies office with all the donors names, addresses and
their pledge amount. In order to deposit the donations in each site's bank
account, I HAVE to have your list of donors from you. The Birdies office will
invoice each donor for their pledge amount, collect the money and then send us a
check in September or October (after all pledges have been received.) The
Birdies Foundation will then donate 10% of our total donations as a bonus! We
receive absolutely every penny of every donation! Keep in mind, the person who
makes a pledge has to pay or you don't receive the money. There were quite a
few people who didn't pay their pledges last year :(
This is an easy way to raise money for your site! Last year the
Rapid City site raised nearly $1000.00. You can't lose - unless you
choose not to participate. If you have questions, please refer to their website
or send me an email. This is a very popular fundraiser in my area, and every
non-profit here participates.
Thanks, and good luck!
Brenda
